Digital Nomad Blog Carnival (6th Edition)

17 December 2009 One Comment

Welcome to the 6th edition of the Digital Nomad Blog Carnival.  Each month writers submit their best articles about the lifestyle of a digital nomad, and the publisher for the month (in this case me) chooses the best of the best to display. If yours wasn’t chosen, the chances are it was a too far off topic to be included, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a great post!  Now on to this month’s selections:

Stacey over at The Smarter Wallet, submitted a great post entitled How to Work From Home and Start a Home Business.  While on the surface, this may not seem very nomadic, I found some of her suggestions to be very applicable for those looking to start a business from the road.  Points such as “self-motivation is the key to success” are entirely true whether your business is from home or Tahiti.

Dan from Voyagner submitted an article called “Happiness is the Key to Success“.  If you can combine self-motivation and happiness, then you really are on to something.  I have always enjoyed Dan’s blog, and this post was no different.  I think this is due to words of wisdom such as this:

“Success is not a number, a certificate or a promotion, success is being happy.”

Martin from Globe Cheap, submitted a post called Discover Cheap Discount Travel to Amsterdam and Explore the Red Light District.  I included this post because, a few years back this is exactly what I did.  The cheapest place to go from Barcelona was Amsterdam, so we hopped on a last minute $20 Ryan Air flight and headed up north.  I loved the city and would recommend it to anyone.  Martin does a good job of giving a overview of the city, despite his very long title!

This month Cody Mckibben of Thrilling Heroics (the brains behind this carnival), wrote a post called 49 Tools for Living the Location Independent Lifestyle.  Talk about a useful post.  Seriously, every single one of those 49 tools is beneficial in way or another, I would know, I have been researching all of them!  Some personal favorites are Google Voice, Mint.com, and World Nomads Travel Insurance.

Thursday Bram of Working Your Way Around the World offers another way to support the travel bug in her post Traveling Without Choosing Digital: Consider Government.  Many of us have become convinced that the best way to work and travel at the same time is to start your own business.  Working for the Government is something that is often overlooked, and I believe could be an excellent alternative for some one who is a bit less of a risk taker.  Not to mention the excellent benefits associated with a government job.

Katie from Trip Base wrote a very useful post called 10 Questions to Ask Yourself Before Picking a Travel Partner.  If there is one thing that can make or break a trip, it is careful selection of the people you will be seeing day in and day out.  I especially like #6: “are they a moaning minny.”  No one wants to travel with someone who whines about everything!

Alright and finally we have my entry for the month: The Location 180 Guide to iPhone Apps.  While I might have had a few other posts more directly related to traveling, I think every single one of these apps can help the digital nomad in one way or another.  So check it out if you haven’t seen it already!

Ok, thats it folks!  Be sure to check out next month’s edition of the carnival when Christine of Almost Fearless hosts!
