Site Update: June 2009

Since I began this site at the beginning of May, this is the longest I have gone without posting. I am not happy about this. I did however have a GREAT time (I use the term great, very loosely) helping my dad reroof/reside our old house in 90 degree weather for the entirety of my holiday weekend. With that being said, I think now would be a good time to take a look at everything that was accomplished in June, as well as take a look forward and see what July has in store.

We covered a lot of ground last month, quite a bit more than I expected to be honest with you. In the beginning of the month, I wrote about my mis-adventures on my first trip abroad in Backpacking Through Europe – Without the Backpack.

One of the most successful posts of all time has undoubtedly been 10 Tips for Creating a Useful Bucket List. I am really hoping to spend some more time writing about the things on The List. Unfortunately, while working 50 hours a week I have been making some excuses for why there isn’t more progress. I want to see that begin to change in July.

That isn’t to say there wasn’t any progress though. I began My Quest to Play Golf at Augusta National. I am pretty excited about this one, but am still working on the draft for the letter that I am going to send out. With that in mind, I am looking for any good connections that might help me here. Let me know if you have any leads!

Towards the middle of the month I wrote a guest post for Live Uncomfortably entitled Gorgeous Girls, Fast Boat, French Riviera. Derek is the man, and has been awesome with helping me out as I build my site. He has a new ebook coming out soon, so definitely be on the look out for that!

After doing the guest post about my day in Nice, I thought I would keep the stories about that trip going and wrote about my canyoning adventure in the French Alps. If you have done this anywhere else you should let me know, as I would love to go again!

We also had a slew of posts related to lifestyle design and location independence. We started by finishing up the Quit your Job, Move to Hawaii series by Ryan Martin (they have been so popular, we may feature one more). We then discussed Sailing for Free, and using a cruise ship as your gateway to location independence. As I realized I am getting closer and closer to actually getting out of the country I wrote about accountability, as well as the importance of money.

My first Carnival of Blogs about those who have inspired me has ended up being a pretty big hit.  I am hoping to do one every month, each centered around a different theme.

Each week I still post the Happy Hour of the Week. I do this mostly to give the local readers something cool to act on. Do you guys like these? Are they beneficial to anyone? Feedback would be appreciated.

One of the main things on my to-do list is to do some maintenance work on the site. I have already done a few things such as add my Twitter feed to the sidebar, as well as add an archives page. Over the next month I hope to begin a rebranding of sorts. Location180 will be the new theme, and while you will still access the site at its current domain, I am going to work hard to start building this brand, as I think it will be more beneficial for what I am trying to accomplish! I am excited about the upcoming changes, and getting your responses as it happens!

Now what is in store for the future? Aside from the site rebranding/improvements, there should be lots of great content on the way. I am hoping to dig into my goals on the list on a more regular basis and you should see an update soon about the completion of #53.

In the next 24 hours there will be a post about the best reasons for becoming a blogger. After my weekend of hell on the boiling hot roof, I have a newfound respect for why blogging is so great!

The final two parts to An American’s Guide to Carnival will also be finished up this month. I am considering adding some content and turning it into an ebook. Would anyone be interested if I did?

Finally, I just want to say thank you. I have met so many interesting people over the past few months, and have had a fantastic time building this community. I also appreciate all of the comments I have received. You guys are awesome, and I am looking forward to continuing to get to know each one of you over the coming months! If you haven’t made contact yet, send me an email, Twitter reply, or comment and I will definitely get back to you!

You’re awesome Sean!! It’s amazing the amount of content you have written and covered in such a short period of time! I didn’t realize that you just started this blog up in May. Love the recap of the month… it’s a great way to refocus on what has happened, and what is yet to come. I loved your Carnival of Blogs (though I have to say, I have been confused with the similar titled “An American’s Guide to Carnival”) I know, I know… the pronunciation’s different, but it’s gets all muddled in my little brain! And you work 50 hrs/week?!? Craziness. Keep up the good work, and it’s been great connecting with a like minded individual. I look forward to your July posts!!

Yeah the whole carnival (Brazil) and carnival (of blogs) got a little bit confusing in my mind too, probably should have thought that one through a little bit better! I am kind of surprised at how much content I have come up with so far too. When I went back and saw that I had 17 posts in June, I was like wow…really?? Keep up the good work on your site as well, you are off to a fantastic start!

Keep up the good work, Sean. I can’t wait to see what you do with Location180; we’ll definitely have to write guest posts on each others’ blogs in August!
