The Initial Concept
It’s not often I’ll devote an entire post to a product that I’ve created, but so much has evolved with Location Rebel over the past 6 months that I thought today would be a good time to fill you in how much things have evolved.
For those of you that are new here, Location Rebel is my flagship course and community where I (and now the rest of the members) teach you how to build a business you can run from anywhere.
The basic premise behind the whole thing is that most of the education in our lives has been spent trying to achieve a piece of paper, rather than by learning useful, profitable skills.
Location Rebel is the culmination of my three year journey of figuring out how to make a living online, and it gives you a base of knowledge with which to do the same thing yourself.
When I began working on the site last April, I had no idea what it would turn into. In fact, to be honest I had no idea if it would really work. I was taking concepts that I’d learned through years of transitioning into lifestyle entrepreneurship and making them more broadly applicable. There’s certainly a lot of uncertainty that surrounded that, but I really felt that once you had a base of knowledge the potential routes you could go were unlimited.
Initially the course contained 8 blueprints:
- Search Engine Optimization
- Copywriting
- Web Design and Advertising
- Web Development
- Project Management
- SEO Writing
- Technical Writing
- Remote Work Agreements.
The idea was that each of these skills were laterally applicable. For instance if you wanted to become an SEO specialist, then it’s also good to have a background in copywriting and web development as well. You can criss-cross each of these skills to others in the same way.
By giving people a base of knowledge with which to work, they could then find freelance work, remote work, or create their own projects in any of these areas.
The community that’s developed as result of this has exceeded my already high expectations.
Members are building real businesses. Some have so much work and clients that they’re turning it over to other people in the community. Others are quitting their jobs and focusing on their new businesses full time. To see so many people excited about their lives and what they are doing has truly been humbling and inspiring to be around.
Last week I received this email from one of the members of the community:
Sean!
I have to just write and say that Location Rebel is literally changing my life.
I have spent the past few months very much down in the dumps and overwhelmed and really thinking that doing anything like this was just out of my reach.
Then I got back on the boards and got in with my little mastermind clan, and it single handedly has been the best thing I ever could have done. I think I was scared for a long time to take the jump, but just in Feb, I’ve set up two niche/affilate sites to practice my SEO and holy shit I’m moving up the pages practically every day, I set up my own personal site to reference people to, and I’ve started applied to freelance gigs online, and I have a phone chat tonight to help an e-commerce store build up it’s rankings, a listing I found on Craigslist.
I never would have even dreamed of having the confidence to just think about applying to these things, and now I’m getting results. I finally finally finally feel like the light is at the end of this tunnel and that I’m taking steps to get there. I am so sure now that I can do this, I know that 2012 will be the last year I ever ever ever have to sit in a 9-5 job in an office because I “have to.”
Thank you so much for everything with setting this up, your support and feedback on the boards, and even before I was a member of the group.
I think I owe you at least one very large mug of the best craft beer you can find at WDS2012!

That’s why I do this. Those emails are the ones that make you realize that all of the hard work is worth it, and that you really are making a tangible difference in people’s lives.
So What’s New?
All of that said, I’ve quietly been working away on updates to the site since it’s initial release last July, and really haven’t taken the time to tell many people about it. Even the sales page hasn’t been updated to reflect all the updates, so I wanted to use today to let you guys know exactly where the course is at.
Since releasing the 8 initial blueprints, I’ve released 4 more, most of which are designed to help you take the base level of skills to the next level. Once you’ve got a base of knowledge of how things work online, there are all sorts of ways to capitalize on that, and these blueprints help you reach that potential.
Here’s a quick rundown of what they are:
How to Create an E-Commerce Store with Dan Andrews
Dan is one of the primary reasons I’m doing this today. His company is going to gross well over a million dollars this year through their e-commerce stores online. The cool thing about this? It’s never been easier to do it yourself with services like Shopify and WordPress. If you’ve built some SEO skills and are willing to put in a little time up front to find people to source products from, this is one of the best ways to move forward building your online empire.
In this blueprint Dan teaches us exactly how to find a good market, find people who can dropship your products, and how to quickly and easily get your first e-commerce store up and running.
As a bonus, Dan and I also did a podcast about how you can leverage Ning to create a new business or grow a current one.
How to Become a PPC Ninja with Joel Runyon
I get asked all the time about Pay Per Click advertising. Is it a good idea? How do I make sure I don’t lose a ton of money? Is this a feasible skill to try and build a business around?
These are all questions I hear on a regular basis.
Well, luckily Joel has all of the answers to these and he helps share his experiences of being a freelance pay-per click ninja. Joel’s name seems like it’s been everywhere lately, so I’m really excited that he’s taken the time to share his experiences in this blueprint. PPC is something that I’ve never been particularly good at, so to have a better understanding of how to get started, and when it’s appropriate in your business has been really cool.
The Location Rebel Guide to Affiliate Marketing
The most recent two blueprints are monsters. They were designed to be able to stand alone as their own products, and were developed to walk you through every aspect of each process.
The first is affiliate marketing. It’s no secret that a siginificant portion of my income comes from affiliate marketing. Whether on this blog or my niche site HDR Software, I’ve learned how to successfully sell other people’s products online. Many of the original blueprints (namely SEO and copywriting) provide the fundamental knowledgebase for how to be successful in affiliate marketing, but this gets into the specific tactics and strategies that have not only worked for me but others as well.
This blueprint alone is over 15,000 words and includes a lot of the advanced strategies that we’ve used to build HDR Software to the point that in less than a year it gets almost as much traffic as Location 180 does – 90% of which is from search engines.
How to Make Passive Income with Product Creation with Derek Johanson
This is the newest blueprint, that I’m announcing publicly for the first time today. This is the reason that for the first time since it’s release I’m dedicating an entire post to Location Rebel. My buddy Derek and I have been working on the product creation blueprint for the better part of two months now.
I rarely use the term passive income – because the reality is, it doesn’t exist. You’ll spend much more time than you expect upfront creating your “passive income”, but that said, once you have an asset that you can sell online, it’s a pretty cool feeling.
While we were in Mexico earlier this month our friend Clayton was putting the finishing touches on his first product using our methods. He got his sales page up on the last day, and within 24 hours he’d made two sales. Seeing the excitement he had from those first few sales reminded us how special that is.
We’ve created this blueprint as kind of a capstone to all of the other blueprints. The goal is to take those skills, combined with your unique knowledge and package it together in a way that you can sell it and add immense value to someone else’s life.
We focus on every element of the process from picking a good market, to distribution options, to creating the final product. We’ve even included a few really special tools to help ensure success:
- Info Product Creation Framework: This is a framework that Derek has developed that helps you walk through and map out every single component of the product. It makes it so that when you sit down to actually create it you have a very specific path you can follow which makes the creation process as simple as possible.
- In Design E-Book Template: I’ve created a few ebooks now, and while many of you won’t have Adobe In Design, you’ll want to consider picking it up if you’re going to design and release your own ebook. This is a 10 page template that makes it extremely easy to get started. It’s as simple as dragging and dropping your content into the document. In a matter of a couple of hours you can have a good looking ebook.
Everyone has something unique they can offer to the world – but not everyone knows exactly how to do go about it. This blueprint helps you realize that potential, and create something that you can not only be proud of, but can also help you to make a decent living as well.
A Special Offer
With the release of the 12th (and biggest) blueprint, we wanted to come up with a way to help those that are truly serious about creating their own product do something special and see their vision come to life.
We’ve decided to take on up to five clients and help them make sure their vision comes to life. We’ll help with everything from selecting the perfect niche to sales copy and site design, and finally getting all of the technical aspects of releasing a product up and running.
This isn’t for everyone and there’s an application process to ensure that we are working with only the right people. That said, if you’ve had an idea and have been putting it off for too long this could be your chance to see it come to fruition.
If this sounds intriguing to you, fill out the application here, and we’ll be in touch within 2 business days.
The Future of Location Rebel
As the community has grown to over 100 people in the last 6 months, it’s become stronger than ever. There are dozens of people available to help you transition into the world of lifestyle entrepreneurship. Having a solid support system of like minded people is the absolute best way to facilitate change in your life, and Location Rebel is finally at the point where it’s achieved the vision I originally set out for it.
Best of all? It’s only going to get better from here.

That is awesome, go Liz! What I also like about LR is that it’s very clear where to start. I didn’t get overwhelmed, despite there being so many goodies in there.
Great to see the expansion and here’s to more people quitting their jobs, like I also did last week
Tristan.
Hey Tristan, congrats!! I didn’t know you made the leap. You should start an “I quit my job” thread on LR!
Is the ‘client application’ separate from membership in LR, or is it one in the same? Have membership fees gone up?
Chas, The “client application” is totally separate from LR. The fees for it are more expensive because Derek and I will be working with you personally to plan for, create, and market a product.
Location Rebel is the same as it’s always been, $297.
Good stuff Sean. A nice expansion of product offerings you have. I hope it continues to grow for you and your clients!
Sam
Sean,
It seems you also have a great future as a potential teacher, mentor or coach. Please keep up the good work. You add value to the work-lives of people; you touch lives in a meaningful way.
Thank you for all the hard work: believe you me, it shows. Great instructions here. Cheerio.
