Let’s face it, making money from your blog is no easy task, and takes hours and hours of hard work. Over the past year I’ve considered ways to monetize this site, however my primary goal is to not let that interfere with providing high quality and useful content. So far I’ve made a little bit, perhaps enough to cover my hosting costs, but nowhere near enough to support myself full time. However, there are people out there who have done a much better job of utilizing affiliate adds, product creation or a combination of both to live AWESOME lifestyles. While I’m still unsure exactly which direction I will eventually head (although there is a thinly veiled attempt in this post), I’d like to take the time to spotlight some of the people I respect most when it comes to making money online.
Some of them have done an excellent job of teaching others how to follow in their footsteps. Others have created products that teach you how to make an income while working for yourself. And others still have discussed how you can outsource and put other people to work for you in order to build your online empire.
This post features some of my favorites.
NOTE: There are tons of people out there making more money than many of these guys, and certainly others who have awesome blogs as well; these are just the guys that have impacted my life the most.
Glen Allsopp – Viper Chill
Glen originally started the hugely popular personal development site PluginID a few years ago. He grew this site, and a myriad of smaller sites to the point where he was earning a 5 figure monthly income off of them. Now at the ripe old age of 20, he has started his latest project, Viper Chill, which I daresay is the best of the bunch. Entirely focused on helping others to make money on the internet, he has provided some of, if not THE BEST blog posts on the internet about the subject. His recent post “$0-$5,000 Per Month: How to Make Money With Blogs” is an excellent starting point for those looking to make the foray into blog monetization.
Last year Glen also released “Cloud Living” an ebook that explains in detail how he is able to live the life he lives. This is something I have not personally read, however, if the rest of his free content is any indicator, this is well worth the $37 he is charging for it. Here is the link to the sales page for Cloud Living (not an affiliate link). Now because of his money making endeavours, he has had the opportunity to travel around the world, and live a lifestyle at an extremely young age that most people work their whole lives towards. Might want to pay attention.
Chris Guillebeau – Art of Non Conformity
As many of you that have been reading this site for awhile know, I owe a huge portion of Location 180′s success to Chris. Ever since first meeting him a year ago, and picking up The Unconventional Guide to Working For Yourself, I’ve been on a quest to break out of a corporate lifestyle to do something that is more exciting to me. I don’t think anyone would argue that he has been the most successful person on this list when it comes to making a living online. Products such as Frequent Flyer Master, which is a must for anyone looking to acquire frequent flyer miles (or just want the guaranteed free domestic flight), or The Unconventional Guide to the Social Web, have made him nothing short of an internet rock star, and have even landed him a book deal.

Chris Guillebeau at his BKK meetup last February
Earlier this month for a 24 hour period he released his most ambitious project to date, the Empire Building Kit. Geared at helping others create a “lifestyle business” grossing between $50k to $150k a year, this is one product you don’t to miss if you are serious about taking a step in the entrepreneurial direction. He his re-releasing it to the masses sometime in May, so keep a look out here for more information regarding that launch. I know I, along with many others are eagerly anticipating it.
Tyrone Shum – Mass Outsource
Over the past however many months, I’ve been learning a LOT about Outsourcing. Sure much of this probably has to do with the fact that I’m working with a team of a half dozen people based in the Philippines on a day to day basis, but I believe there is a movement in the works. Over the next three years, you will see millions of dollars being poured into the high quality Filipino labor force, as more and more businesses recognize the benefits outsourcing can have. And we aren’t talking basic call centers. No, I am talking about full on web design, development, personal assistants, you name it.
Now with that in mind, if you haven’t heard of Tyrone Shum, you are missing out on some incredible opportunities. Tyrone is on the forefront of helping individuals and businesses save money and increase efficiency through outsourcing. He writes about this at his blog Internet Business Path. He also hasn’t been doing too bad as a personal businessman either, having just opened the doors to Mass Outsource. When it comes to in depth programs for how to outsource just about anything, Tyrone’s course is the most comprehensive out there. Featuring nearly 50 videos and covering everything from how to hire staff in the Philippines to learning how to train and manage them over the long term. This program is a quite a bit more expensive than any of the other products I’ve written about, but if you are trying to take your business to the next level, its well worth the price of admission. However, if you click the link above you will get access to 10 free videos about how to outsource your business. Can’t go wrong there.
NOTE: Tyrone is closing the door on the Mass Outsource program on Friday night, so check this one out soon.
Derek Johanson – Live Uncomfortably
Derek is different than a lot of the other guys on this list, but I respect the hell out of him. Essentially he was unhappy with his life and quit his job to do some traveling and figure out what he really wanted to be doing (sound familiar?). After traveling through South America with his buddy Clay, he came back and started putting together some informational products to help fund his lifestyle. The result was the Ultimate Guide to Living Like James Bond. Essentially if you want to learn how to dress better, carry yourself with more class, and be as sauve as the man himself, you need this book. The coolest part about all of this though is that a few weeks after its release, he packed up on fairly short notice and decided to ride from Canada to Mexico – on a bike. If you can’t respect that then what can you respect? Maybe the fact that he was the first blogger to ever let me write a guest post for them. For that I will be eternally grateful. He is still
David Walsh – Muse Life
Since he arrived in Bangkok this past February David has become one of my best friends. And no, that is not why he is being included in this post. Aside from being a good friend, he is also one of the smartest guys I’ve ever met. Ever. His blog Muse Life always seems to have some of the most compelling content out there when it comes to earning passive income online. His ebook Source Control is hugely successful and one of the best I’ve ever read. You can read my review of that here.
However, it is the stuff he has in store for the world over the coming months that is what excites me the most about David. I won’t reveal too much, but having recently been shown a sneak preview of his long awaited m6 Creator, I can safely say its been worth the wait. Not only is David the poster child for living the jet set lifestyle, he has the products and the success to back it up.

David Walsh using his location independence wisely...
So regardless of whether or not your goal is product creation, ad revenue, or just merely a lifestyle change, following in the footsteps of these guys and listening to what they have to say is guaranteed to point you in the right direction. I know for me personally, each and every single one of these people has put out an article or a product that has helped to facilitate the location independent lifestyle that I’m currently living. If you have any questions about specific products that I’ve written about, please don’t hesitate to leave a comment or send me an email. These products and blogs are in my opinion are some of the best of the best, and I wouldn’t write them otherwise.
I will also note as a disclaimer that there are affiliate links in this article (as if you hadn’t figured that out by now). I firmly believe in the value each of these products provides, and I know these guys have worked their asses off to teach you everything they know. I would have written this post without the links because my appreciation for their hard work. So if you don’t want to click on them, just check out their blogs instead and bask in the awesomeness that each portray.

Hey sean, thanks for the mention.
Ive noticed a few people saying im 22 recently but im actually just 20. Any clues on where that figure is from?
Best of luck with the site!
@Glen Good question, I believe I saw it on another post about you. Thanks for the correction – and for all the great content.
Hey Sean, nice post. I’m most familiar with Chris at The Art of Non-Conformity and have even purchased a few of his products, which for me were incredibly useful and a great value. The others you list I am not as familiar with but I will be checking them out for sure.
ouch. I’m not one of your favorites? burn!
great list! Already follow a few but another couple to add to the list.
uh oh, muselife is down?
I am honored and slightly overwhelmed to be included on this list. There are some incredibly successful and awesome people on this list. Thank you Sean.
Hi Sean,
Great list mate… It is highly motivating to read success stories. It encourages us all to try harder…
Thank you for this effort.
Cheers!
This is a great list. David’s products are superb and SourceControl is by far the best eBook I’ve ever purchased.
I’m starting to learn a lot from Tyrone about outsourcing. You can really tell its a subject he is passionate about.
I like your taste of money making bloggers Sean. If I had to choose my favorite money making bloggers our list would be a mirror image.
I like the set … it’s an eclectic set, but that’s what’s nice about it … a variety of successful paths, all leaving clues and footprints to follow.
Great selection. I especially enjoy reading the in-depth articles at Viper Chill.
Sean– Terrific post! Thank you for turning me on to Glenn. I was not familar with him before, but I’ll be adding him to the people I follow now. Great stuff!
I agree with this list with one small exception – what about Pat from Smart Passive Income?
The one cool thing about Pat is that he got his start by selling a study guide rather than teaching others to make money online.
For me, Pat and Glen Allsopp have been the most useful.
