Looking back on this title, it totally sounds like a cheesy sales pitch for a $400 self help program. Well, lucky for you it’s not. What if I told you you could change any aspect of your life for the better in just one easy step. Would you believe me? Well I’m here to tell you there is only ONE reason I am sitting in a jungle bungalow in Krabi, Thailand right now. There is only ONE thing I’ve done that got me to this point, and it’s much easier than you might think.
Ok are you ready for this? I want you to have an open mind. Seriously, don’t laugh when you hear the answer. Hear me out.
Alright, here it goes:
Start a Blog.
Yep, thats it. I don’t care what kind of change you hope to make in your life, I would argue that starting a blog is the absolute best way to start. I’ve routinely said, that if it weren’t for Location 180, I would still be in Portland doing the exact same things as I was 6 months ago. And its true, I would be.
So don’t get me wrong, that one easy step is a hell of a lot of hard work. There are a lot of things that go along with starting a blog, but I’d say that none of them are particularly difficult. The whole point of a blog is to connect with like-minded people. Once you start the blog you slowly begin integrating yourself in the communities and niches of your choice. Discussions on the blog migrate to Twitter, Facebook, email, Skype, and even personal meetings. A blog is simply a tool to help you meet people that you wouldn’t have otherwise connected with.
So how can this be applied to your life? Well, what do you want to do?
Maybe you want to lose 20 pounds in the next 3 months? Google weight loss blogs, start leaving comments on other blogs in the niche, while simultaneously starting one of your own. It can be as simple as a blogspot account with youri name on it. At this point, just having a place where people can come to discuss and read about your goals.
Maybe you want to move to quit your job and move to Thailand? Ha, that is almost cheating because it’s so easy. Start a blog, email me, and I’ll help you out in anyway I can. I can name a dozen other people without even trying that would also be more than willing to help.
Want to start a new career? Use a blog as a virtual resume of sorts and build yourself up. In a lot of ways I did this without even meaning to. Dan over at the Tropical MBA apparently liked what I was doing, sent me an email about the program, and the rest was history.
The point is, you never realize where the opportunities will come from, but the only way you will find out is by showing up. Starting a blog is the first step towards showing up.
Many of you may have excuses or reasons why you disagree with my statement, and if thats the case I WANT TO HEAR ABOUT IT. Seriously, leave a comment, send an email, whatever, but I want to know your reason for why it won’t work for you. Because I’m willing to bet that it would.
Maybe right now you’re thinking you don’t like to write. Well, lucky for you, there are many other blog formats to choose from. Video blogs are blowing up right now, and I believe they will play an integral part in the future of information on the internet. Because of this, I’ve included the second ever video at Location180 straight from Ao Nang Beach in Krabi, Thailand. No cuts, no edits, just a personal message to you. So give me some feedback on it!
Maybe you are uncomfortable with video and don’t want others to see you. Start a podcast. Dan of the Tropical MBA has done an excellent job with the Lifestyle Business Podcast, I would highly recommend it if you haven’t checked it out.
There are thousands of resources out there that can tell you exactly what to do to get started, whatever your medium is. The important thing is to start. As I mentioned in the video, I want to do whatever I can to help you change your life for the better. I don’t care what it is, I firmly believe starting a blog will help to get you there. I was serious about the emails and Skype as well. If you want someone to chat with about taking steps towards change, I would love to talk with you. Let me know what you are thinking, and I will do everything I can to support you.
Bottom line is that we have one life to live. We are given one chance. So why waste it on something you aren’t excited about? Start taking steps to doing the things you really want to be doing.
I’m excited about this. I’m excited about the future.
I think I’m finally starting to find the purpose of this blog, something that has been lacking since inception. It’s really cool to see the things that are happening due to that clarity, and I’m looking forward to seeing what the next six months are going to bring.
Oh and on a completely separate note, I’ve even been so successful in my first week here, that I was able to hire an assistant! He works for bananas and answers to the name of Mr. Giggles.
