May 2009 Recap
Wow, so my first month as a blogger has officially come to a close. At the end of every month I am going to try and recap everything that I have discussed, as well as give you an idea of what to look for in the future.
I have been surprised at how much I really do enjoy writing and working on this blog. I have met a ton of great people through the process, and I continue to meet more every day. Obviously this whole project is still a work in progress, as evidenced by my lack of a clear niche or direction, and some other aspects of the site that are still only partially completed. However, I feel that with each post I am getting closer and closer to my goals, and that is what is important.
So what has been going on at seanogle.com during the month of May?
-We are halfway through the six part series Gringo-izing Brazil: An American’s Guide to Carnival. In the next month, you can look for posts about the rest of the Carnival celebration, other activities and places to visit while in Brazil, and a Best of Brazil post. In time I hope to compile all six parts, as well as a few additional supplements into a pdf ebook that will be available on the site.
-We looked at Creating Your Own College Education, and how the traditional college experience isn’t for everyone.
-We have been featuring a guest post every Friday and are two thirds of the way through Ryan Martin’s series Quit your Job, Move to Hawaii. We also have introduced The Ultimate Ride: African Rush and Steve Ogle’s quest to capture some of the most spectacular kayaking footage ever seen.
-Every Wednesday we have been featuring the Portland Happy Hour of the Week. So far we have looked at Uptown Billiards Club, Bartini and McCormick and Schmicks.
Over the next month I am very excited to be adding some new content. Some of the things you can expect to see are:
-Backpacking Throughout Europe – Without the Backpack
-The most popular link on the site has kind of surprisingly been “The List”. I have hardly mentioned it at all, yet it has more clicks than anything else. I hope to start spending a lot more time discussing those goals and how I am going about accomplishing them, as it was one of the biggest reasons I began seanogle.com. Be on the look out for progress being made on #27!
-I hope to continue to add functionality to the site as well. Better links to related sites (My Twitter page, RSS Feed etc). And on the topic of Twitter, I am very new to the whole thing. I am still not entirely sure that I get it either. So if you are proficient or an avid user, let me know! I could use a few pointers.
If you are reading this, THANK YOU! I think it would be really cool to spend some time traveling, and turn this into a full on travel site, and the more people that read and support the site, the better the chances are of this becoming a reality. Also, if there is anything you would like to see me write about, or if you have any comments or questions PLEASE let me know as I would love to hear them. I still do not claim to be the best writer in the world, or even a good one at that, but hopefully I am at least making some improvements.
