Happy Hour of the Week: Bartini

As an ode to the beautiful weather we have been experiencing in Portland over the past few days (with the exception of Tuesday), I wanted to come up with a happy hour this week that has some outdoor seating.  Enter Bartini.  Located right off the corner of NW 21st and Glisan, Bartini is a great place to take a date or people watch.  Before I go too much further I do want to mention that this place isn’t perfect.  The service usually sucks, and it isn’t very big so seating can be an issue, but its strengths more than make up for it.  This is one of the few places in Portland that has a drink menu that is equally as impressive as its food menu.  Almost all of their martinis are half off during happy hour.  There are literally dozens of choices, with everything from strong and bold to uber-fruity.  For $3.50 I prefer the 007 (Vodka, Gin and a splash of Vermouth), but it seems like everyone that goes with me swears by the Blackberry Lemon Drop (exactly what it sounds like, $3). So whats better than cheap drinks?  Cheap food to go with it!  For $4 you can get fondue big enough for two (courtesy of neighboring Urban Fondue) and for a few bucks extra you can have your choice of sausage, fruits or asparagus.  While the fondue is probably the highlight of the menu, you should also check out the chicken and coriander satays ($3) and the bacon cheddar burger ($5).  Now don’t get me wrong, this isn’t the best food in town, and there are plenty of better places for drinks (check out the O-Mojito at Mint and 820 for one of the best cocktails I have ever had), but for the price, selection and availability of outdoor seating, Bartini is definitely a place worth checking out! Happy hour is from 4:00-6:30, and 9:30 t0 close daily.  Through the end of May it is also available all day on Sunday and Monday.
