Location Rebel Has Arrived

Greetings from Seminyak, Bali! After having to listen to me talk about it for months, the big day has finally come.  Location Rebel will open to the public at 8am PST this morning! You can head here to join in on the fun. While it’s bright and early back in the States, here in Bali that’s 11pm, so I’ve recruited my friends from the Tropical MBA to keep the music going and the Red Bull flowing to ensure I don’t nod off Not only have I spent hundreds of hours putting this program together, but I’ve traveled halfway across the world for the big day. I mean honestly, what good is a program called Location Rebel if I can’t prove

Welcome to Bali Video Post

Earlier this afternoon I was thinking of ideas for today’s post, when it hit me: tomorrow is the biggest day of my entrepreneurial career.  My head has obviously been focused elsewhere for the last few weeks as I work hard to make sure that everything is in order for the release of Location Rebel. So instead of writing a traditional post, I decided to just put together a quick “Welcome to Bali” video where I mention what I’ve been up to, and say a quick personal thank you for all of you who have been following along for the last couple years. We’ll be back to our regularly scheduled programming on Thursday, where I’ll talk more about the trip and

Bali, You Tube, and an Exotic Adventure

I have no idea how it’s been over a year since I last left the country, but alas, that is the case.  The last month has been absolutely insane. I’ve shot a tv pilot, driven desolate freeways, ran into major technical problems, and am now leaving for Bali, Indonesia where I’ll spend the next month hanging out with the Tropical MBA crew before doing some backpacking around the region. I’ve been itching for an adventure, and I think this trip is definitely going to provide that. However, this isn’t your typical adventure where you head off into the jungle and aren’t seen for weeks on end.  No, I’ve decided I’d like to do things a little bit different. The Biggest

How to Deal With “Technical Difficulties”

One of the great things about computers and the internet these days is the fact you don’t have to be an expert at web development to make all kinds of web sites.  Things like WordPress, Dreamweaver, self installers, and plugins basically do all of the work for you. It’great! Well, you know, until it’s not. We’ve found ourselves in an era where there’s a tutorial or a how-to on just about every subject imaginable online.  Couple that with an in depth knowledge base or support community, and it makes it really easy to tackle a project that you should have no earthly business dealing with. Well this week I (re)discovered the darkside of all this accessibility. Right after posting my

Thoughts on the Road Less Traveled

I’m the first person to admit that my life is pretty freaking awesome.  I’ve worked hard to get to the point where I’m at, and with a few lucky breaks, I’m able to work when I want from anywhere on the planet practically. Living the dream? Some might say that. However, the dream can be a pretty lonely place at times. I have an on going conflicting battle with myself about what I want to do, versus what I feel I responsibly should do. That’s not very clear, so let me see if I can clarify. Next week I’ll be leaving on a trip to Bali to hang out with Dan and the Tropical MBA crew, while also traveling with

14 Questions to Answer Before Starting a Membership Site

One of the more popular posts I’ve written this year has been “How to Build a Membership Site in 48 Hours“.  I went through and did a detailed overview of just about every single aspect to creating a successful membership site. I’ve created two of these in my life: Overcoming the Fear of Uncertainty and Location Rebel.  Through the process of each, I’ve learned (and continue to learn) a lot of tips and tricks that anyone setting out to create a site like this could benefit from. Creating a membership site isn’t for the faint hearted however.  While there are dozens of benefits and I believe anyone can do it, you have to look at your ability to follow through.

How to Leverage Video for Fun and Profit

You’ve probably noticed that lately I’ve been doing a little bit more video here on Location 180. Awhile back I was going through a bunch of photos from my past trips, and pretty quickly I realized something.  It wasn’t the photos that I was most interested in – it was the videos. Now, Ive never been good at shooting video while traveling.  You find that usually your companions are shy about being on camera, don’t want to take the time to do something interesting, or frankly, you’re just lazy. But after seeing the 15-20 or so videos from my trip to Brazil, a lightbulb went off.  I was able to visualize and remember more about that trip from a couple

Why Adventure Is Not Always the Right Choice…

If you’ve been hanging out at Location 180 for awhile (or if you watched Tueday’s video) you know that one of the rules I have in my life is this: Play First, Work Second. Generally speaking I’ve found it to be a good rule, and because of it, I’ve done some pretty cool things. There are times however, when rules need to be broken, and recently I did just that. This past week I’d road-tripped down to Colorado for a wedding in Vail.  The trip was supposed to be two-fold, a week in Colorado, followed by another few days at Yellowstone National Park.  I’ve always wanted to go and figured this would be a great opportunity to do so. After

Why Company Culture is Vital to Your Lifestyle Business

When you work for yourself and have a company of one, something you probably don’t put a lot of thought into is company culture.  Why would you think about culture when the only one it effects is yourself? The reality is, your company culture is one of the most important things you can establish early on in your business life.  This is what determines not only the quality of your life, but the perception that people have of you and your business. A Company That Gets It A few days ago I found myself in Fort Collins, Colorado touring the New Belgium brewery.  I’ve been familiar with the company for awhile, but it wasn’t until I took this tour that

10 Ways You Know You’re a Frugal Traveler

If you’re reading via feedreader, make sure you click through to see the video! If you know me well, then you know that I have a tendency to lean towards champagne tastes. I’m fascinated with luxury and expensive things. I could tell you where the best suites are in Vegas, all about luxurious island resorts the world over, and I can tell the difference between a Panerai and a Breitling. That said, when it comes to traveling, I’m one of the biggest cheap asses you’ll ever meet. Perhaps this is due to my finance background, spillover from being frugal after leaving my job, or perhaps I just like to annoy my travel companions. Regardless, if there’s an opportunity to save
