Things I Miss About the United States

I will apologize in advance, this post is a little more personal, as I have found myself doing a lot of reflecting this weekend.  On Sunday I turned a quarter of a century old, and today marks the day that I’ve been traveling for three months.  So if this doesn’t interest you at all, feel free to move on, and I will have something more relevant for you later this week! Today I’m able to officially cross #44 off my Bucket List: Travel for 3 Months Straight.  While I may not have been traveling for much of this time, the spirit of the goal was basically to be out of the country for an extended period of time.  As this

How I Live and Work in Southeast Asia

This is a post that has been a long time coming.  Many of you that have been following me since the days of daydreaming and remote work proposals keep asking me the question “what exactly are you doing to support yourself in Asia?”. Today is the day I answer that question.  Well, kind of. I will tell you up front I’m not going to go into detail or the specifics about the businesses that I’m working in.  However, you will find out about the skills I’ve learned and find necessary to achieve this lifestyle, what my income is really like and how that relates to my expenses, what my plans are for the future (or what little I have), and

Am I Arrogant For Pursuing A Different Path?

Well it has been a very busy March for me, but you wouldn’t know it based on the fact it has been nearly two weeks since you have seen anything from me on Location 180!  This past week I was back down south in Krabi to spend time with my sister Courtney and her boyfriend Poul, and internet there was a bit lacking to say the least. I did however get a chance to shoot a quick video, that sadly was cut off half way through, but I figured I would post it anyway to give you a bit of an idea of what my week was like.  If you are reading this in a reader and can’t see the

Quit Your Job, Love Your Life

It’s been about five months since I left my job.  In that time I’ve experienced just about every emotion possible, and over the last few weeks I’ve come to one very important realization. I love my life. Had you asked me that six months ago, I may have lied and said the same thing, but deep down I’d know it wasn’t true (and if you read older posts, you would know it wasn’t either).  I was on the same path as so many others for a long time, and even though I knew there was another way to do things, I could never imagine what it would be like to actually pursue something out of the ordinary. I couldn’t imagine

Why I Commute 90 Minutes Each Day

For the past few weeks I’ve been doing something I have never really had to do before: commute.  You might be wondering how I could possibly have a commute when I can roll out of bed and work in my boxers all day.   I’ve found it extremely important to find a workspace outside of my home if I have any hope of being productive. It is a pretty wild concept for me.  In my previous life, I had a 5 minute drive with premium parking in downtown Portland.  Now I have more flexibility than ever before, yet I choose to spend a good 90 minutes round trip to make it to my “office”. For awhile I had been going

Thailand: Not as Cheap as You Think

Over the past month of living in Thailand, I’ve learned something very important about myself: I am very easily persuaded. Now this could be perceived as either a good thing or a bad thing, and in the context which I am referring to it, its both. When I first arrived in Thailand, I thought it was going to be the cheapest place on Earth.  And who knows, it still may be, but there are obvious caveats to any such blanket statement.  I would like to go on the record in saying that Thailand has NOT been as inexpensive on the whole as I expected it to be.  And let me also make clear, this is entirely my fault. I’ve noticed a

Don’t Undervalue Proximity

If you had asked me two months ago what I expected life to be like while living in Thailand, I may have answered that it would be rather low key and full of sightseeing, work, and perhaps meeting a few new people. And I would have been completely 100% wrong. The last month of my life has been one of the most fun and exciting I’ve ever had.  On EVERY. SINGLE. LEVEL.  Seriously, let me give you a brief run down of what life is like for me these days. I spend most of my days working my ass off for the Tropical MBA.  We are building a business that is going to be taking our industries by storm, and

The Online World IS the Real World

I was recently at the TEDx Bangkok conference, and one of the presenters kept referring to the “real world” and the “online world” as if they were separate things.  Listening to her talk it kind of hit me, that we have come so far that these are no longer separate worlds, and we should stop treating them as such. These days nearly 50% of my waking hours are probably spent online.  Now that is kind of a sad realization, but when it all comes down to it, that’s the truth.  Due to this, I have a hard time believing that almost half of my time is spent in a “fake world” that doesn’t exist.  The fact of the matter is that,

A Guide to the Islands of Thailand

I’m sure that a lot of you out there have thought at some point about taking a trip to Thailand.  I mean why wouldn’t you want to?  Its affordable, beautiful, and the local people are some of the friendliest you will meet anywhere.  However, if you were anything like me, trying to sort out where to go was no easy task.  Exotic places like Koh Samui, Koh Phi Phi and Phuket probably sound exactly the same to you, however the differences of each island are not to be overlooked. There is something for everyone in Thailand, but choosing the wrong island could spoil your trip. For starters, if you are coming from some place international you will probably fly into
