Carnival of Blogs #3
The last few weeks have been pretty tumultuous for me. There have been a lot of changes going on, that I would love to write about, but I am not quite at the point where I can do so. I will say that I am really excited for the future of Location180, and I think there are some good things coming in the future!
With that being said, rather than do the talking myself, I will let some other people do the talking in the third edition of the Carnival of Blogs. This go around, there isn’t much of a coherent theme, but rather it is simply a collection of posts that I have enjoyed over the last couple of weeks.
Christine over at Almost Fearless has started a new project in the last couple weeks. ”Thirty Ways in Thirty Days to Redesign your Life and Travel the World” is a series of posts designed to teach you how to do just that. So far she has looked at a variety of topics such as budgeting, lodging and even what to do with your pets while you are on your adventure. I would highly recommend checking this out if you have been looking for a way to get out and do some traveling.
I have a lot of respect for Paul Norwine. He is a guy that I have recently come across who wasn’t happy with what he was doing in life, so he quit his job. Simple as that. In “I Have Yet to Make a Single Dollar Online and I Just Quit My Job” he talks about how his pursuit of happiness is far more important than his high paying job down in Austin, Texas.
I don’t remember for sure, but I think I have featured a post from Derek of Live Uncomfortably in each of the previous blog carnivals. He doesn’t write quite as often as many other bloggers, but that is probably because he is usually out doing something really cool. For his latest adventure he biked the Pacific Coast Route from the Canadian boarder all the way to the Mexican boarder. Who does that?? As I have been trying to cross things off my list, it is stories like his that help to keep me motivated.
A few months back David Walsh of Muse Life wrote the post “The Art and Science of Remote Work Agreements“. This is the best guide I have seen out there for developing and implementing a remote work agreement at your job. If this is something you have considered, I would definitely check out this post.
Jonathan Mead is someone who I have followed off and on for the last few months, and he just recently released the best free ebook I have read since Chris Guillebeau put out his 279 Days Manifesto. The Zero Hour Work Week, documents exactly how he was able to make the transition to a full time blogger. There is some excellent content in here for how to take your passion to the next level. He also has great comments on how you can stop having to make the choice between work and fun.
This one is totally random, but it was a post I found very interesting. Have you ever heard of Vipassana? If not, basically it is a practice in which you spend 10 days straight in complete silence and meditation. Many people engage in this on trips to India, and I have even talked to a few backpackers who mentioned they were going to try it, but none had followed through. Tynan, of Tynan.net recently gave it a shot at a retreat in California. However, he only made it 3 out of the 10 days. In his post “My Three Days at Vipassana” he discusses in detail exactly what he did during those three days and I can’t help but think I might have similar results. Although, even after a story like this I still think it would be fascinating to attempt some time.
BONUS UPDATE: I just this morning came across this article by John over at Jet Set Citizen entitled “Stop Telling Me What to Do (The Normal Person’s Guide to Success).” It is a fantastic look at why we do so many of the bad things we do, yet seem to struggle to do the most beneficial things (like lose weight for instance). He looks at a concept that should be very obvious to all of us, but presents it in a way that I hadn’t considered.
I hope you guys enjoy these articles as much as I did. Hopefully over the next few weeks I will get back to some more regular posts about travel and lifestyle design. I feel like those have been lacking recently, due to a variety of reasons, tbut there should be a ton of interesting materials coming soon!

Sean,
Thanks for the shout-out, brotha. As you know, I’m a fan (and subscriber) to your posts as well so I’m glad we’ve been able to connect.
It’s funny you mention Jonathan’s “Zero Hour Work Week.” I downloaded it a few days ago but haven’t had the chance to start reading it…but it seems as though everyone is talking about how great a read it is so I’ve got to get on that soon!
Anyway, keep up the great work, Sean, and I look forward to the next item crossed off your list!
Paul
Some cool sites. I have read most of these articles so it is good to see someone else appreciates bright words as well.

What’s the deal with the Detroit carnival picture? I live in the Detroit area and I am wondering if you are planning something locally.
haha no, that was just the best picture of a carnival that I could find on Creative Commons.
All good people / good posts. Thanks for the mention.
The 0hrww is definitely worth a read.
Hi Sean,
Thanks for the mention of my article!
Paul is a new person on my radar screen, I will check out his blog. Thanks for sharing.
I’ve known a few people that have done the 10 day Vipassana retreat. They all raved about it. I practice mindfulness meditation so I’m interested in doing the 10 day retreat at some point as well.
Heya!
Haha, yeah I read Tynan’s blog post about that, Was so funny how he describes his experience and then the fact that he didn’t get past day 3!
Really cool post, I love this idea of sharing your favourite posts and blogs and showing some love to others!
Big Thumbs Up!

Great collection of posts here. Some new names on the list, too, which is excellent (more reading material for me!). Well carnivaled, Sean!
