Greetings from Breckenridge, Colorado!
Over the past few days I’ve been hanging out with friends in Boulder, Vail and Breckenridge and was finally able to cross another item off the ole’ bucket list: Ski at Vail.
The snow left a little (or a lot) to be desired on this go around, but nonetheless I’ve had a fantastic time.
Over the past month I’ve done a lot of reflection and planning. I’ve looked at some things I’ve done well, not so well, as well as reflected on some of my travel for the past year.
The final part of this reflection is to look forward and to create some public goals to help aid in my accountability.
One of the primary reasons I started Location 180 to begin with 2 and a half years ago (wow I can’t believe it’s been that long) was to hold myself accountable for all of the things I wanted to do and experience in my life. I was pretty happy to see that I reached all of my goals for 2011 and now it’s time to up the ante.
Goal #1: Make at least $100,000 this year
It’s been pretty amazing to see the transformation that this website has made since it’s inception. What started as something that was purely a vehicle to improve my life personally, has now turned into something that is helping countless others do the same thing – while also being a fantastic lifestyle business for myself.
With that comes a lot of increased responsibility however. As I talked about in my post on discipline, it’s time to step it up a notch if I want to reach this goal.
By making a six figure income, not only will I be able to achieve more of my own goals, but I’ll have increased resources to help others as well, and that’s pretty exciting to me.
Goal #2: Get a Six Pack
Since I returned from Bali a couple of months ago, I’ve gained 15 pounds. I’ve essentially been the same weight since my freshman year of college 9 years ago, so to gain that much in 2 months is pretty startling. I spend way too much time on my computer and not nearly enough time creating healthy lifestyle habits.
The six pack is more of a measurable goal – I know if I can get there I’ll have been doing something right in terms of diet and exercise, so I figured it would be a good way to track it. I’m also considering doing my buddy Clay’s Hollywood Physique program, which has been responsible for some pretty phenomenal transformations.
Goal #3: Play 75 Rounds of Golf
Most of you are going to look at this and think it’s the stupidest goal you’ve heard amidst a myriad of these types of posts over the last few weeks. Bottom line, I like to play golf. I’ve created a lifestyle that allows me to do that on a regular basis, and this year I’m serious about actually getting better. Only way to do that is to be a little more diligent about practice – hence the goal.
Along those lines, thanks to the extreme generosity of one Location 180 reader (more on that later) it looks like I’ll be heading to the Masters in April. One of the first posts ever on this site was about My Quest to Play Augusta National – the hardest golf course on Earth to get on. My only shot is to get in the media lottery where 28 people get to play on the Monday after the tournament. So if you happen to have a connection with any media agencies that could hook me up with as pass, I’d love you forever.
Goal #4: Help 50 People Quit Their Jobs and Start a Business
More exciting than any of the travel, or personal success I’ve had in the last year, has been to watch the transformation of so many readers and Location Rebel members. There are so many people out there that have committed to doing things on there own terms, and it’s been really fun to watch it all happen.
There’s so much opportunity out there that regardless of where you are in life, you can make a living on your own terms, doing something you enjoy.
If I’ve helped you achieve this goal in any way at all, shoot me an email, as I’d love to hear about it.
Goal #5: Travel to 5 New Countries
Travel is such a huge part of what this whole thing is all about, and while I spend a lot of time traveling this last year, I didn’t get to very many new places. I’m hoping to change that this year, and it all begins with a trip to Mexico here in two weeks.
It would be great to get back to Europe as well, as it’s been close to 5 years since I’ve had the chance to visit.
Goal #6: Continue Creating My “Dream Job”
If you read the post about creating your “dream job”, you know that I’m really excited about the idea of getting involved more in the world of luxury travel – it’s always appealed to me for some reason.
Some of my upcoming projects and trips will be directly related to establishing myself in this niche, and helping as many people as possible enjoy experiences that they didn’t think were possible.
There are certainly other goals I have for the year, but these are some of the ones that stand out the most, and many of the smaller goals are directly related to these overarching ones.
A Tool to Help With Your Goals
Yesterday I received an email from my buddy Scott of Live Your Legend, telling me about a free goal setting workbook he’s put together. I’ve gotta say, after going over it, I’m totally impressed. If you’re looking for a better way to set and manage your goals for the new year, look no further. It’s totally free and doesn’t take any email address to get access so check it out and let us know what you think.

Solid! Most excited about 50 people out of their day jobs, I’m hoping to collaborate on that one in 2012…. I think the opportunities for people to travel as they work will continue to multiply… if wew can some role in helping them get there, well, that’s super cool. Anyway, it was a great 2011 man, here’s to 2012!
Come May, you’ll definitely be able to count me as one of the 50! Location Rebel has been a huge help so far, and I’m working full steam ahead as a result.
I don’t think the 75 rounds of golf are a joke, but it is entertaining to see that as a goal next to “make $100k.” My goal is to golf at least once this year, and I’d be happy to help you hit your goal, too, if there’s at WDS golf outing!
Working hard towards being one of those 50.
Unbeknownst to you, you have already helped me to quit my job.
I started following this blog about a year ago, I read about how you quit your job and were the first Tropical MBA intern. It lit a fire in me that has refused to go out.
Next month my husband and I both finish up in our jobs here in NZ and head to Thailand so that we can work totally on our online endeavors. Sooo much to learn and implement but I’m beyond excited to finally be working on creating the life I want.
Goal #4. One down, 49 to go.

What up holmes?!?
That was an epic ski trip.
The highlights: Cigars. Scotch. Rodeo bulls. Swanky hotels we don’t belong at. 18 year old dance parties. Paparazzi photo shoots. And wrapping it all up with a night of relaxing in the outdoor hot tub. Did i miss anything?
Never a dull moment when we’re together.
Next time we’ll have more snow… and i’ll bring my A game to the ping pong table.
I really enjoy your goals because I can easily connect with pretty much all of them. Minus the rounds of golf – but that just might be in 2013 for me.
I find that you can pretty much mash these all together. I’d love for my dream job to be taking me to 5 different countries and allow me to make a good income. I might change up and say I’d like to visit cities that I’ve never been to. I already just hit up one – Seattle – and I want to see many more large american cities.
Okay, now our goals are starting to get a little different…. but no not really.
Keep pushing here and these goals will manifest!
