The Best of Location180

This is just the beginning of Location180...

So over the past five months, Location180 has continued to grow and is seeing more and more success each day.  I can’t thank you all enough for the support you have shown in helping this community to thrive.  With that being said, there have certainly been some highlights since I have began, and I wanted to take a moment to point out some of the these.

My Words, Your Voice

I have had the pleasure of writing a few guest posts for some people that I have grown to call friends over the last few months.

My first guest post ever was Gorgeous Girls, Fast Boat, French Riviera at Live Uncomfortably.  I owe Derek a lot for this opportunity, because at the time, I had next to no exposure, and he gave me a chance to be heard, and sent a lot of traffic here early on.

I then had the pleasure of writing for JD, over at Wage Slave Rebel.  Abolishing the Someday Mindset, was one of my favorite articles that I have written and there is one quote in there that I continue to repeat to myself daily.

“There are only seven days in a week, and someday isn’t one of them”

The most recent post was for Colin of Exile Lifestyle and I discussed the virtues of organizing and cleaning out your life in “The Beauty of Spring Cleaning“.

2. 10 Tips for Creating a Useful Bucket List

Bonus: I don’t really count this, since it wasn’t a regular post per say, but “The List” is actually the single most viewed page at Location180.

The Best of the Worst

Awhile back I wrote about My Quest to Play Golf at Augusta National.  I think this is one of the best ideas I have had on this site.  It is on the list, and very difficult to accomplish, but would make for one hell of a story if I actually found a way to make it happen.  Unfortunately, since I wrote that post I have done very little to actually follow through with it.  I found the time it takes to track down emails and addresses is much higher than I initially anticipated.  So while I have by no means given up on this goal, it has been moved to the back burner for the time being.

Create Your Own College Education.  This is one of those posts that I was really proud of.  I thought there was some great content in there, and for whatever reason it just never caught on.  I don’t think it has even hit 100 page views yet.  I think this is a very valid topic though, and there are so many better ways to go about your personal education.  So if you haven’t read this article, I would definitely recommend checking it out.

By the Numbers

I have always been the kind of person that is interested in statistics.  Maybe you care, maybe you don’t but I think it is worth taking a look at some of the best numbers Location180 has produced.

149: Subscribers I am currently at.  I would LOVE to get this to 500 by the end of the year, so please sign up for my RSS Feed if you haven’t already!

217: Twitter Followers.  I have not spend ANY time trying to bump this number up.  In fact I wouldn’t even know how.  So if you aren’t following me on Twitter, definitely check me out @seanogle.  I would love to get this up to 500 by December as well!  I promise, I will be interesting (usually).

80: Countries this site has been viewed in.  Here is my goal: Be viewed in every single country before Chris Guillebeau can travel to every country.  He is already up on me by like 40 countries, so if you happen to be in some place like Mozambique, tell your friends! UPDATE: I have actually had two people from Mozambique view the site, lets try Liberia instead!

3.66: Avg. time (in minutes) spent on site.  This is a pretty exciting number to me.  A lot of sites get a ton of traffic that shows up for a grand total of 6 seconds or something like that.  The fact that there are so many people that come here, and also take the time to be engaged in the content and participate in the community, is awesome.   So keep it up!

391: # of comments.  Many blogs really struggle to get their readers to speak and leave comments, not Location180!  You are all fantastic at starting some very compelling conversations.  I would love to see a 1,000 comments by the end of the year.  Lets start with this post! This has been made even more true, after I read the 25 comments on my last post If You Were to Live Abroad…The amount of support you guys have shown is truly incredible, and I should have some very good news to share with you all shortly!

1: # of video posts on the blog.  I was very proud of being able to cross off #16 (Climb a Mountain) from the list.  I was even more proud when I was able to edit my first ever video blog about the experience.  You should definitely check it out.

Help Me Out

So a few times a year Ryan Stephens Marketing comes out with a top 10 list of Gen Y Blogs on the internet.  The topics cover a wide variety from travel, to careers to lifestyle design, and in the August edition I actually made it in to the top 10 at #9.  I was shocked to be included in such a great list, but this time around I want to see if I can make it even higher.  If you wouldn’t mind taking a second and heading over here and voting for me I would be REALLY appreciative!  However, even if you don’t want to vote for me, you should still go vote and support the numerous fantastic Gen Y blogs that are out there.

Once again, I can’t thank everyone enough for the support, and if you enjoyed the articles presented today be sure to check out my email updates and RSS Feed.

Hi Sean,

I am finding your site to be a really inspiring read. The insight given in articles like this one that show actual figures and your goals are especially interesting.

So here’s the deal: you keep writing, I will keep reading :)

Sound good?

You’re doing well, Sean. Your blog is pretty decent and just needs more time. It’s cool that you have set some concrete goals for the end of the year statistic wise. I’m sure you’ll reach them, buddy!

Cody McKibben September 21, 2009 at 4:26 pm

Sean, I’ve loved following you on your journey so far! You’re a great writer, and sounds like you’re off to a good start. The nearly 4-minute time and comments count are actually really high, and great marks for a young blog!

Sean September 21, 2009 at 4:52 pm

@Kristin, I have checked out your site and you are definitely well on your way. I am looking forward to reading more in the future! Send me an email if you want to talk more about guest posting and such.

@Corbett, Gordie and Cody Thank you for the support! The journey should be getting more interesting soon enough, so I am really excited to see where it leads me. Looking forward to talking to each of you more soon.

Awesome job, Sean!

Congrats on all the progress and success you’ve been experiencing. Yours was one of the earliest blogs I started reading regularly, along with Cody and Corbett’s.

Heya Sean!

Congrats on the success and progress.
I really like your blog and loved your south sister video! Gave me some good ideas for videos I’m going to shoot with my buddy Glen when we go to Amsterdam :)

I’m launching a post tomorrow with awesome blogs, and of course yours is in it too.

Have an awesome day !
