Well just when I think things can’t get any more exciting at Location180, I seem to outdo myself.
While September was full of stories about me crossing things off my list, October has been a month of significant change. Honestly, my life changed more last month than any in recent memory.
So let’s start with the obvious. October 20th was my last day at my job. If you have been a regular reader here, you could probably sense that I wasn’t entirely happy with my employment situation. While it didn’t happen in the way I expected it to, it was really only a matter of time. Thank you to everyone that contributed to the 50+ comments and showed me more support than I could have ever anticipated.
Following up that article, I wrote about How to Stay Motivated Without a Boss, as well as The Demise of the American Dream, where I looked at how the goals of Americans have changed over time, and whether or not the changes have been positive.
However losing my job wasn’t the only big thing to happen in October.
I Finally Bought an iPod for instance. While this may not be a big deal to some people, as you will (or have) read, I had spent the last 8 years vigorously fighting the world telling me that I should put iTunes on my computer. Well, I reached a point where it was just too useful and too cool not to have one. Congrats society, you win this round.
I also recognized one of my greatest fears in blogging in I am a Hypocrite. Little did I know just a few short weeks after writing that post that my credibility would skyrocket. Step #1 complete, I am on my way to not being a hypocrite!
I also finished up work on the Bucket List 2.0. Unfortunately amidst all the life changes going on, I have done a terrible job with following up on the updates I had promised.
So in case any of you were still curious, for #97 on my list, I promised I would take the first goal that a reader suggested. Well I should have rethought that one. Dave Damron of LifeExcursion was the first one to comment, with a goal of running a marathon on every continent.
While I am not entirely sure if it should count, since “running a marathon” is already on there, I will put it up for now. I am going to start with a 10k and work myself up to a half marathon, this could be a long process. But thanks for the support anyway Dave!
Aside from that, I haven’t decided upon #98-100, but I will keep you posted.
In January one way or another I plan on doing some traveling. At the moment, it is looking like Thailand or backpacking through Central America are the two most viable options. So in honor of that I wrote about My Top 5 Dream Destinations. So for all of you that responded to my inquiry about renting the place in Thailand, we may have to push it back to 2011 now that I am living the frugal lifestyle!
One final thing I would like to add, is that October has by far been the biggest month for the site. Records were set left and right, and in terms of page views October more doubled the previous highest month, and Halloween more than doubled the previous daily high.
You guys are continuing to show incredible amounts of support and I can’t thank you enough. The next few months should be interesting as I adapt to my new lifestyle and plan for the future.
Also, if there is anything you would like to see me write about, or features you think could be added to Location180 I would love to hear about them. Leave a comment or email me with any thoughts or just to say hi!

I will run a marathon with you in Antarctica. You can hold me to that.
Moving on up!
Glad to hear about all the positive changes! Don’t fret about living the frugal lifestyle, either…you may find you like it so much that even when you’re diving into a swimming pool full of gold coins (Scrooge McDuck style) you’ll still be spending little and buying less.
I’ve adopted the frugal lifestyle as well and love it! I’m a big fan of these updates. I’d be interested in hearing about what you are planning to have as income sources in the future… just a thought. Hope you’re having a great day, man.
Great to see all of your progress Sean! Congrats on quitting the job, I quit mine back in March and now I’m headed to Thailand in a week to start backpacking Southeast Asia. Let me know I can be of any help, I am always especially happy to help a fellow Portlander
Hope to run into you in Asia…or Portland, which ever comes first.
Best of luck!
It is awesome seeing you succeed online. I hope to follow in your life changing footsteps and became as successful as you.
…And sorry for #97…hahahaha

These updates are pretty nice – and a good way to take a look at what you’ve accomplished in the past month. Congrats again! You can only move forward from here.
As a side note, I too would be interested in knowing what sources of income you’ve been working toward.
I’m glad to hear about all this happening! You seem like a cool guy who deserves good things to happen. I agree with Caroline, the updates are a great idea. It’s nice to take a second and reflect on the success and progress. Go Sean!
@Tyler Big mistake buddy, in 10 years once I have a few other marathons under my belt you are going to get a random phone call and end up in Antarctica 3 months later!
@Brittany Thanks for the comment! You should definitely keep me posted as to how your travel goes, I would be really interested to hear about it!
@Dave You’re an ass…haha jk, at least now I have motivation to get in shape!
@Nate/Caroline I will see if I can’t get a post together in the next few weeks about some of the ways I have been looking to bring in income. For the most part everything is still a learning process, so I’m not sure how much help I will be, although I’ll do my best! Send me an email if you have any specific thoughts or questions
@Colin The frugal lifestyle has actually been a really good change. I may be taking it a bit too far right at the moment, but over time I will develop a balance. I think I needed to go through this otherwise I never would have made the changes!
This definitely has been an amazing time for you I bet. Keep up the expectations and updating us every now and then. I understand you have a lot to think about (with the Holidays coming and everything) but don’t forget about us! We’ll keep rootn’ for your success. –Paul
Congrats my friend! Keep up the amazing work. You are an incredible inspiration.
