Since I’ve started my adventure, I’ve learned that there is a very distinct difference from those that are traveling and those that are working.  When I first began, I thought you could be both.  In the back of my mind, I thought I’d be able to join my friends and travel on a whim to anywhere I want.  While there is some truth to that being possible, it’s the exception rather than the rule. It’s interesting to meet other travelers, because most of them don’t get what I’m doing.  They don’t understand the concept of working remotely; and don’t even try and use the term “location independent”.  I’m coming to the fast realization that there are fewer of us out

Untitled from Sean Ogle on Vimeo. NOTE: This video is in HD, hopefully you have a faster internet connection than I do and can watch it smoothly! I would love some feedback on how it turned out for you. If you are viewing this in a reader and the video doesn’t display head over to my site to check it out! For the last three days I’ve been hanging out on the island of Koh Phi Phi, about a 2 hour ferry ride from my previous destination of Ao Nang.  I’m not sure what I was expecting to find here, but whatever it was, I was completely unprepared. Unparalleled in beauty, a ten minute kayak ride found me floating in

If there is one thing that has remained constant through my transformation over the last year, it’s my love of music.  It has played such a strong role in my life that I sometimes wonder where I would be without it. Regardless of how you are feeling, there is a song or artist out there that can make you feel better. If you need motivation, commiseration, energy, whatever it is, music will always be there to help.  Just today I found myself wearing down a little, and all I had to do was put in my headphones and everything was better. There have also been specific songs in my life that have helped me down the path I’m on for various

Looking back on this title, it totally sounds like a cheesy sales pitch for a $400 self help program.  Well, lucky for you it’s not.  What if I told you you could change any aspect of your life for the better in just one easy step.  Would you believe me?  Well I’m here to tell you there is only ONE reason I am sitting in a jungle bungalow in Krabi, Thailand right now.  There is only ONE thing I’ve done that got me to this point, and it’s much easier than you might think. Ok are you ready for this?  I want you to have an open mind.  Seriously, don’t laugh when you hear the answer.  Hear me out. Alright, here

If there is one thing I’ve learned while traveling it’s that it pays to know people.  I did things in Brazil last year that I would have never experienced had I not known Mariana.  Here in Thailand,  Cody Mckibben has proven to be my contact, and in less than a week he has shown  me incredible ruins, secluded beaches and introduced me to some awesome people. After arriving around midnight last Thursday I was determined to take Cody up on his invitation to visit the Ayutthaya Ruins the next morning.  It’s a really strange feeling to wake up after about an hour of sleep, hop in a cab in a foreign place and have no clue where you are going.

I’d like to preface this post by saying I have never had a massage in my life; or at least not a real one. For years I have heard about these fantastic Thai massages that you can get for dirt cheap prices all over the country.  Well as it turns out, all of the legends were true, as every where you look you see all sorts of massages advertised for less than the price of a Big Mac back home. Well yesterday morning I found myself with some time to kill, and decided to wander the streets near Khaosan Road and see if I could find an acceptable place to get my first massage.  I eventually wound up in a really

Well I am currently about halfway through Asiana flight 243 en route to Seoul, South Korea.  So far the trip has been fairly painless, aside from arriving in SFO about half an hour late due to a delay on the tarmac. NOTE: Sorry I am a few days late in getting this posted!  Between jet lag, Ayuthaya ruins with Cody Mckibben, and lack of  wifi, I haven’t had the time to post! I was really excited to see the difference between flying a domestic airline (such as my usual United) and one of the great Asian airlines I have heard so much about.  The results so far are a bit of a mixed bag.  My seat is definitely more cramped than I

For the past few weeks I have been reading Chris Guillebeau’s annual review posts, and it has inspired me to do a bit of a personal review myself.  While I haven’t written a book, inspired thousands of people, or almost been kicked out of Saudi Arabia, I have been thinking a lot lately about how much has changed in 2009 and reflecting upon where I was a year ago.  If you have been reading Location 180 for awhile, you have a general sense of what I have been through, but you probably don’t realize just how far I have come to get to the point where I am today. If you had asked me a year ago, what I would

Welcome to the 6th edition of the Digital Nomad Blog Carnival.  Each month writers submit their best articles about the lifestyle of a digital nomad, and the publisher for the month (in this case me) chooses the best of the best to display. If yours wasn’t chosen, the chances are it was a too far off topic to be included, but that doesn’t mean it wasn’t a great post!  Now on to this month’s selections: Stacey over at The Smarter Wallet, submitted a great post entitled How to Work From Home and Start a Home Business.  While on the surface, this may not seem very nomadic, I found some of her suggestions to be very applicable for those looking to start a

I’m not sure when the realization actually hit me, but at some point in the last week, I couldn’t help but think to myself “holy crap, I’m actually moving to Thailand”. I don’t know if it was finalizing the visa, or getting my plane ticket purchased, but after over a year of trying to work towards a new lifestyle, it is finally happening. How awesome is that? I can now write in peace knowing that I am not, in fact, a hypocrite. I don’t have to read travel blog after travel blog, lusting after exotic locations that people like Nomadic Matt experience on a daily basis; now I’m one of those people! I realize that since announcing the move, I
