Lately I’ve been seeing an increasing amount of cynicism and negativity towards the concept of the Four Hour Workweek. I think it’s been made clear that the message in that book was obviously not, quit your job and only work four hours a week, but rather, that there is a more fulfilling way to live your life. Yet, for whatever reason over the last few months, more and more people have been speaking up with their disillusionment with the whole lifestyle design thing (or whatever you want to call it), and it’s got me wondering what has changed, and what the reasons are for the negativity. There could be a variety of reasons some are feeling this way. If I

What a difference two years makes… This past Sunday marked the two year anniversary of the very first post on Location 180. To think of everything that has happened since I began this journey, completely blows me away. This past year has easily been the most exciting, fulfilling, and awesome I’ve ever had. However, more importantly, I feel like its just setting the stage for what’s to come. Bigger businesses, more travel, and inspiring more people to pursue a life that they can get excited about. That said, the goal of this post is two fold. The first is to give a resounding thank you to YOU. If it weren’t for the encouragement that I’ve received from this community over the

I’ve mentioned in the past that I’m a total baller when it comes to getting excited about a new project, and starting it. I start a lot of shit. Those close to me will tell you that I probably tend to get a little too excited about new projects and opportunities. This leads to overextending myself, which leads to stress, which leads to a whole different blog post that is not this one. No, this one is about not stopping. If you’re passionate about doing something, and you want to make real change. There’s only one thing you need to do: keep going. One of the things I’ve found about starting things, is that I’ll setup a schedule. As long

A few months back I wrote a post called “How to Add Value to Your Life by Saying Yes“. I’d like to point out that there is just as much validity in that post as this one – but sometime’s you need to look at things from a different perspective. I like to start things. If you come to me with any exciting project or idea. Generally speaking, I’m down. It isn’t difficult to get me excited. I love starting new things – almost to a fault. I say this, because more often than not the things I start get abandoned along the way in favor of something new and shinier. It’s a constant battle. Due to my propensity to

This may have been the longest posting hiatus I’ve ever had here at Location 180 – but I swear it was for a good reason. If you read my last post, The Longest Car Ride of My Life, you know that a couple friends and I spent this past week down in Austin, Texas for our first SXSW conference. To say it exceeded any and all expectations would be an understatement. You really have no idea what SXSW is like until you can experience it for yourself. Every single day I was surrounded by some of the smartest people around, and found myself continually inspired to do more with my life, and help others in the process. Many (most?) of

We’ve all heard it before. The inevitable question that comes from meeting someone new just about anywhere. Sometimes it’ll take a few minutes, other times its mere seconds before the inevitable “So, what do you do?” pops out of your new acquaintance’s mouth. I hate this question. To be honest, it’s really never been good to me. A few years back when people would ask, the answer was “I’m a portfolio analyst for a small investment firm”. zzzzzzzzz. I felt cool at the time – at least at first. I mean, I got the suit and tie I’d always wanted. A big desk with a view. Coming straight out of school I felt like a total baller. Yet its amazing

This is a guest post from Dan Andrews of the Tropical MBA and the Lifestyle Business Podcast. Through the last year Dan has taught me a lot about being an entrepreneur, and more importantly has become a good friend. So listen to what he has to say, or else… I talk to a lot people who are considering starting a business from square one. A typical situation: you have a good job, a great family, friends– most of whom aren’t entrepreneurs. You’re totally sold on the idea of starting a lifestyle business. I mean, why not!? You read Sean’s blog. You’re smart. You’re pumped! Booyah! You’ve got some rare free time on a Saturday morning. You’ve got your white board,

The last three days down here in LA have been a bit of a blur. Product launches, business ideas, and one giant ass house have pretty much been the name of the game. That said, I want to preface this post with a quick story that may have been one of the most interesting encounters I’ve ever seen. We’ve been staying in a pretty infamous house near Hollywood (as you may have seen in the video from my last post), so there’s been a pretty steady influx of people checking it out to rent or throw events in the future. Well yesterday afternoon the owner of the house showed up with Orlando Jones. Trust me, you know who he is,

A Nation of Homebodies I believe it was right around the 100th Australian I met on my first trip abroad, that I realized America got it all wrong. I didn’t travel abroad until the day after my college graduation in June of 2007. A couple of my friends had mentioned the idea of spending a month in Europe before getting real jobs, but the idea of a “gap year” was totally foreign to me. Not for long. Within days of travel I’d met dozens of Australians, Brits, Germans, you name it – I met people from all over the world – except America. It took traveling abroad to realize that in many countries taking a year off to travel is

This is a guest post from my good friend Benny Lewis of Fluent in 3 Months. Around this time last year, Benny and I were hanging out on the beautiful beaches of Thailand – and I can absolutely say he is one of the most impressive people I’ve ever met. If there’s anyone who knows a thing or two about achieving goals, it’s him – so pay attention! If you’re serious about learning a language, then I’d also highly recommend his Language Hacking Guide. I used to make myself all sorts of promises for my new years resolutions – get fit, give up TV, read more books etc., and the result was one I’m sure many of you are familiar
