I’ve heard a few people making excuses lately as to why they haven’t been successful making the changes they want to make in their lives. One person talked about lack of progress on their blog. I heard another mention that they’re too afraid of the consequences to quit the job they hate. A third wants to travel but “doesn’t have the money”. Each of these people also claimed that their lack of success in various endeavors were in large part to a lack of opportunity. “I could never do what you do, you’ve had way more opportunities through your connections.” Yeah someone said that to me. I could go off on a bit of a rant here, but I’m going to refrain

Let’s face it, Google is getting ready to take over the universe. The first time someone steps foot on Mars, I have full confidence it will be in a Google space suit, via a Google rocket ship. However, just because Google has all but taken over the universe, that doesn’t mean it’s totally a bad thing. Quite the opposite actually. I’ve found that as I’ve begun to embrace apps, software, and hardware developed by Google my life has become much more simple and productive. While Apple may be the one (arguably) developing the coolest hardware, the services that Google is now providing pretty much blows anything Apple has done in that regard away. The cool thing about most of the

As a location independent professional or entrepreneur, there’s a good chance that you either spend a lot of time on your computer, a lot of time traveling, or more likely, both. The following apps are some of the best apps I’ve found for productivity, functionality, and entertainment. Mobile Apps 1. Grooveshark for Desktop and Android – I’ve been using Grooveshark since the days of my desk job in order to listen to pretty much whatever music I want. It has Pandora-esque radio stations, plus the ability to listen to virtually any song or album on demand. This alone makes it totally awesome. But where it really gets good is the Android app. For $9/month I get access to any song,

This is a guest post from Dan Andrews of the Tropical MBA and the Lifestyle Business Podcast. Through the last year Dan has taught me a lot about being an entrepreneur, and more importantly has become a good friend. So listen to what he has to say, or else… I talk to a lot people who are considering starting a business from square one. A typical situation: you have a good job, a great family, friends– most of whom aren’t entrepreneurs. You’re totally sold on the idea of starting a lifestyle business. I mean, why not!? You read Sean’s blog. You’re smart. You’re pumped! Booyah! You’ve got some rare free time on a Saturday morning. You’ve got your white board,

The last three days down here in LA have been a bit of a blur. Product launches, business ideas, and one giant ass house have pretty much been the name of the game. That said, I want to preface this post with a quick story that may have been one of the most interesting encounters I’ve ever seen. We’ve been staying in a pretty infamous house near Hollywood (as you may have seen in the video from my last post), so there’s been a pretty steady influx of people checking it out to rent or throw events in the future. Well yesterday afternoon the owner of the house showed up with Orlando Jones. Trust me, you know who he is,

Check out the Travel Hacking Cartel It’s no secret that I’m a HUGE fan of Chris Guillebeau. Well, hell, I better be considering I work with the guy. That said, there’s a reason why I’m such a fan and why I always get so excited for pretty much everything he does: it’s because he does it better than just about everyone out there. If he’s going to design a business course, he doesn’t just slap something together. In his Empire Building Kit, he put together heaps of case studies, and wrote 365 emails to ensure you stay on course throughout the whole thing. The text in these emails adds up to well, well over 100,000 words – essentially making it

I’d like to state up front that this is the longest post I’ve ever written here at Location 180. It’s more representative of the direction I’d like to take the site in the future, and is the culmination of the last year I’ve spent becoming an seo freelancer. If you take a weekend, read the resources provided, practice with your own site(s), you’ll have enough knowledge to lay the ground work of a location independent business. I’ve been getting a lot of emails lately from people who are looking to start working for themselves. Whether it’s a small business on the side, or they’re looking to create a full time location independent business, it’s obvious there’s a lot of entrepreneurial

Things are starting to change here at Location 180. This blog began as a quest to make changes in my life, and to force myself to get past all of the road blocks that were standing in my way. Over a year and a half has passed since I was sitting in my office wondering what it would be like to travel the world and I’ve realized something… I’ve done it. Sure I still have a limitless number of places I plan on going to, but I’ve achieved the goal of seeing some of the world and building a business. I can pick up at a moment’s notice and fly anywhere in the world and know that my income will

A Nation of Homebodies I believe it was right around the 100th Australian I met on my first trip abroad, that I realized America got it all wrong. I didn’t travel abroad until the day after my college graduation in June of 2007. A couple of my friends had mentioned the idea of spending a month in Europe before getting real jobs, but the idea of a “gap year” was totally foreign to me. Not for long. Within days of travel I’d met dozens of Australians, Brits, Germans, you name it – I met people from all over the world – except America. It took traveling abroad to realize that in many countries taking a year off to travel is

This is a guest post from my good friend Benny Lewis of Fluent in 3 Months. Around this time last year, Benny and I were hanging out on the beautiful beaches of Thailand – and I can absolutely say he is one of the most impressive people I’ve ever met. If there’s anyone who knows a thing or two about achieving goals, it’s him – so pay attention! If you’re serious about learning a language, then I’d also highly recommend his Language Hacking Guide. I used to make myself all sorts of promises for my new years resolutions – get fit, give up TV, read more books etc., and the result was one I’m sure many of you are familiar
