For the last two years I’ve had one primary goal. I don’t know anyone who isn’t pursuing this goal, but are certainly some who have placed it lower on the priority list. That main goal is to be happy. I mean isn’t that what life is all about? If someone asked you would you rather have $10 million or to be happy, which would you choose? Seems like a no-brainer right? Duh, the $10 million!! Ok, but seriously, it doesn’t matter what you have or don’t have, it simply matters if you’re happy. I’ve tried a lot of different things in pursuit of this goal. I’ve made tough decisions, major life changes, and gone through a hell of a lot

Have you ever seen the show Entourage? If so, then I know you’vc thought about how cool it would be if your best friend got famous and bought everyone in your circle an Aston Martin. Maybe one day… Until then however, the internet has made it easier than ever to build your very own “digital entourage” (Aston Martins not included). You can still have adoring fans swooning over you, people constantly seeking you out, and the occasional feeling of celebrity as you build up your legion. As I’ve been doing this blog thing for awhile it’s been interesting to see how different “entourages” have formed. You could call them cliques, networks, or any other names, but there are distinct groups

If you’re reading this in a feedreader click through to see the video Over the next few months I’ll be gearing up for a considerable amount of travel. Lately, I’ve been pretty firmly planted in Portland as I enjoy the summer (that still hasn’t quite arrived), and put the finishing touches on Location Rebel. I’ve gotta say. I’m excited. Really excited. In the next three months I’ll be heading to Vegas, Vail, Yellowstone, Bali, Laos and Thailand – among other places. I’ll be able to cross a few bucket list items off along the way, and take a little bit of time to enjoy some of the benefits of all my hard work. That said, recently I was going back

The past two months over here at Location 180 have been a dramatic departure from the previous two years I’ve spent blogging. I’ve always done a good job with the blog, but admittedly, hadn’t done a great job of capitalizing on the potential of the site. I wish I could say I just didn’t know how, or wasn’t sure how to go about it. The reality is I just never put the effort forth. I didn’t take the time to build a game-changing product, I didn’t focus the message of the site, and I optimize my the brand and message in a way that would create a buzz. Well that’s all changed over the last two months. Right now, I’ve got

If you’ve been paying any attention to the tech world lately you’ve probably heard about the debacle that is Final Cut Pro X. For those of you who don’t know, FCP has been the defacto standard for professional video editors over the last few years, and Apple just released the newest version of it. The reactions weren’t just bad, they were scathing. The editors of the Conan show even made a video about it. I’ll say right now, these bad reviews from the pros are completely justified. I’m not sure how Apple could release a “professional” level application that won’t allow you to import old FCP projects, but will allow you to import iMovie projects. That said, most of the features

It’s no secret that I think starting a blog is the best way possible to create change in your life. Whether it’s for the benefits of building a support system and community, establishing yourself as an expert in a given niche, or merely as an outlet to figure out what to do with your life, a blog can be a powerful change agent. With that said, when you’re starting a new blog, there are a lot of different things to think about. You have to consider everything from branding, to content creation, to the technicalities of dealing with WordPress – and if you’re new to the whole thing this can be extremely overwhelming. Due to this, I’d like to make

Nearly two years ago now I received an email from a guy that I’d hardly heard of and had very little online presence. Essentially it said he was testing out an idea for an internship where he brings someone out to Asia, and pays for basic living expenses in exchange for help building his business. Considering I got this email a few days after quitting my job and I had no clue what was next, it seemed to good to be true. Fast forward a couple months and I was sitting on a beach in Thailand, drinking ice cold Chang’s with him and his business partner Ian. Over that six month period I quickly learned how to do SEO, internet

It’s about 4 oclock on a Thursday afternoon and I’m just getting down to work for the day. No I didn’t have a bunch of errands, or appointments or anything that was all that productive. I had a tee time for 18 holes. Oh, and it’s the fifth time I’ve played in the last seven days. If I didn’t know any better, I’d think I was a 70 year old retiree. It’s that time of the year where the weather in Portland is actually half decent, and people around here make up for the last nine months of gloominess by heading outside. I’m no exception. This flexible lifestyle, along with my propensity to never turn down a good time is

If you’ve been reading Location 180 lately, you know that I’ve been talking a lot about the idea of education. More specifically how there are numerous ways you can get an education that is not only more relevant, but much less expensive than a typical 4 year degree. This post is the perfect example of that, and is something that I’ve personally been looking forward to for quite some time. Has there ever been a time where you found a book or resource that has you really excited? A few days ago when I first saw the lineup for the Only 72 Rock Your Life sale I got really excited. There are at least 8 different books in the offering of
