Quit your Job, Move to Hawaii: Some final Thoughts

This is a guest post from my good friend Ryan Martin.  He is the author of the very popular Location180 series “Quit your Job, Move to Hawaii”.  This will be his final post on his time in Hawaii, however you will probably be seeing more posts about his next adventure beginning early next year.
So it has been a few months since I have written for Sean. As a recap, I’ve been on Maui for almost 5 months now. I moved here with no job and no real expectations except to …

Introducing Location Rebel

Over the last several months we’ve witnessed the organic development of a community. Lifestyle designers, artists, entrepreneurs, freelancers and travelers from the United States, England, Australia, India, Thailand, Japan — literally all over the world — coming together to reject the status quo and live out what others had told them couldn’t or shouldn’t be lived.
None of us planned for this. Most of us fell into it. Here is a community of people who think as we do, who aspire to be what we aspire to be. People we can commiserate with, learn with, grow with, and most …

The Best of Location180

So over the past five months, Location180 has continued to grow and is seeing more and more success each day.  I can’t thank you all enough for the support you have shown in helping this community to thrive.  With that being said, there have certainly been some highlights since I have began, and I wanted to take a moment to point out some of the these.
My Words, Your Voice
I have had the pleasure of writing a few guest posts for some people that I have grown to call friends over …

If You Were to Live Abroad…

Where would you go?  Is there are place that has always fascinated or captivated you?  Some place that has been calling your name for years?  I am trying to decide what that place would be for me.  Part of my problem is that there is so much that I want to see, I don’t know where to begin.
Do I go to a place that is inexpensive and will allow me to live and support myself for a long time?  Do I take up my dream island lifestyle even if the …

Carnival of Blogs #3

The last few weeks have been pretty tumultuous for me.  There have been a lot of changes going on, that I would love to write about, but I am not quite at the point where I can do so.  I will say that I am really excited for the future of Location180, and I think there are some good things coming in the future!
With that being said, rather than do the talking myself, I will let some other people do the talking in the third edition of the Carnival of …

Video of South Sister Hike

So the time has come for me to do my first video blog.  On my recent trip where my friend Brian and I summited the third highest peak in Oregon, we took a lot of video.  The result is my first attempt at any sort of  video editing since I took a multimedia class in 8th grade.  I just ask that you be patient with my amateur attempt at cinematography!  I would also ask that you will forgive the wind noise from the last few scenes, as I couldn’t get …

#32 See Dave Matthews Band at the Gorge Amphitheater: Completed

I realize that I just wrote a post about accomplishing #16 on my list, but I felt this one deserved a mention even though I really did it for the first time a few years back.  The Gorge Amphitheater in George, Washington is one of the most  beautiful places I have ever been.  The venue holds about 25,000 people and the stage is set directly above the Columbia River.
For as long as I can remember I have had friends that would drive up there on Labor Day weekend to camp …

Location 180 Site Update July/August

So before I even had a chance to realize it, two months have gone by and I haven’t written a site update.  So, here is one covering the last two months.  It is amazing how much has happened over that time, both in my life and with Location180.
I guess the most obvious change is the fact that this blog is now known as Location 180.  I decided to follow the route of Chris Guillebeau and keep the domain as my name, but now when people are referring to the site, …

#16 Climb a Mountain: Completed

Did you know that it was possible for alarms to go off at 2:30 in the morning? Until Saturday, I had no clue. However, that is what needed to happen in order for me to accomplish #16 on my list: climb a mountain. It was a two and a half hour drive to the Devil’s Lake Trail head, just outside of Bend, Oregon. The goal was to hike the South Sister, which is the third highest peak in Oregon at 10,358 feet.
I don’t think I have been on a hike …
